Family hand-me-downs can be seen as old junk that your
brother or sister doesn’t want anymore. Sometimes, though, you luck out and receive
something you can work with or something of great value. Some great
hand-me-downs I have seen around campus include; rings, a necklace, a jacket,
and a pair of moccasins style shoes. Matthew John, a science student in university,
has his own hand-me-down and a story to go with it. “It’s my pride and joy”
John said, referring to what once was his grandfather’s hat. The Lions hat was given
to John for his sixth birthday. He says it was the best gift ever and it means
so much to him that it was from his grandfather. The hat was a little too big
then, but he eventually grew into it, then right back out. “Even though the hat
is a little small I still wear it because it means a lot to me.” John takes good
care of it and tries to keep it as clean
as possible, in order to preserve it for years to come.
As far as the rest of John’s style, he says he likes to look good but keep it simple. “If I like it and look good I buy it, it’s that simple. I don’t need to have the latest fashion to look good.” He tries not to fall for all the name brands, cheap is not always worse. Left, he is sporting khaki shorts, a no name cheap v-neck shirt
and his Lions hat.
